Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe haven, deliver compassionate care, and find loving homes for stray and abandoned cats and kittens in Lake County and its surrounding areas.

Our Story
Nestled in the heart of Eustis, Florida, the Cat Protection Society stands as a testament to unwavering compassion and dedication. Established in 1997 by a passionate group of volunteers, this nonprofit, no-kill shelter was born out of an urgent need—to provide a shelter for cats in the county, offering them the care and love they deserve.
Initially housed in the former Lake County Humane Society building, the shelter soon faced a challenge that spoke volumes about the demand for its services. As more and more felines found solace within its walls, the facility could no longer accommodate the growing numbers. In response, the Cat Protection Society embarked on a new chapter in 2006, unveiling a state-of-the-art shelter sprawling across seven serene acres of rural landscape—a sanctuary where more than 400 cats can roam, play, and wait for their forever homes.
With unwavering commitment, the Cat Protection Society successfully places approximately 600 cats and kittens into loving homes each year. Whether you’re searching for a mischievous kitten or a dignified senior feline, we’re confident that we have a furry companion ready to steal your heart.
Behind the scenes, our dedicated team of employees and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the shelter remains a pristine, healthy, and welcoming environment. From cleaning litter boxes and sanitizing furniture to sweeping floors and replenishing fresh food and water, every detail is handled with care and devotion.
The well-being of our feline residents is our top priority. Each cat receives personalized attention alongside essential medical services, including vaccinations, deworming, flea treatments, and thorough testing for FeLV and FIV for those over three months old. Every adopted cat is spayed or neutered before they embark on their journey home, and kittens are provided certificates for their procedure at the appropriate age.
Here at the Cat Protection Society, every whisker, every purr, and every pawprint tells a story—a story of hope, rescue, and the promise of a brighter future. Could your home be the next chapter in a cat’s journey?

Our Shelter
Our facility features a fully enclosed main building connected to two large open-air pavilions, offering cats the opportunity to climb and experience the outdoors 24/7. Specialized areas are designated for kittens, young adults, and cats with unique needs.
We are proud to offer a Senior Cat Center, offering a warm and comfortable environment for older feline companions. While some of these cats may be more advanced in age, they still have an abundance of life and love to offer anyone ready to welcome them into their home.
There is also an annex for our special needs cats living with lifelong conditions, such as Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). We are honored to be among the few no-kill shelters in Florida offering dedicated care for these cats.
We invite you to visit our facility in person or explore our virtual tour to learn more about CPS and meet your next feline family member. Let us help you find a companion to love and cherish for a lifetime.

Our Policy for Accepting Cats
We are a shelter dedicated to caring for stray, injured, and abandoned cats. We accept personal cats on ONLY VERY EXTREME CASES.
The shelter schedules a limited number of cat intakes each week, depending on the situation. You may be asked to care for the cat temporarily until an opening becomes available. Since we are a nonprofit organization, we kindly request a donation (if possible) to help support the care of incoming cats. Please note that sick or injured cats will be evaluated based on their condition and will take priority if necessary.
Our goal is to help as many cats as possible! However, shelter space is limited, and transitioning from a home to a shelter environment may not be ideal for a pet. We strongly encourage pet owners to first seek placement with family or friends and to use social media platforms for rehoming. Please consider the shelter as a LAST resort.
Our dedicated staff works tirelessly to care for all our shelter cats. They will evaluate your situation and explore all possible options to help you and your cat. If we are at capacity, we can also provide a list of other cat rescues and no-kill shelters that may have space available.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in finding the best solution for your pet.
